State Rep. Brian Ellis, R-11th, defeated independent candidate Samuel Doctor in Tuesday’s election to win his eighth term representing the 11th District.

With votes from 81 of 89 precincts in Butler County reporting, Ellis received 14,625 votes and Doctor, a crane operator at AK Steel, received 4,438 votes, according to unofficial results.

Both candidates are Butler Township residents.

Ellis said he is proud but also humbled by his large margin of victory. He said he has won each of his elections by a larger margin than the previous election.

“I’m extremely happy to get another two years of serving my hometown and humbled by the support I’ve gotten,” Ellis said. “I’m proud that every time I get elected, it’s by a larger margin.”

He said the results prove that he works for all county residents.

“It really shows that I’m working for all of Butler County and not just one political party. I’m excited about the opportunity to continue to represent us and fight for continued job growth in our area in Western Pennsylvania and fighting to make sure that government lives within its means while still serving the needs of our community,” Ellis said.

Doctor said he was proud of his campaign and hopes he set an example for future elections.

“We’re proud of the race we ran. I hope we gave a good example to other people who want to run for office about civility and discourse about the issues. We’re proud of what we accomplished and we’re proud we got to take part in the process,” Doctor said.
