Man charged for hitting his 74-year-old mother
MUDDY CREEK TWP — A township man is jailed on charges he repeatedly punched his 74-year-old mother, leaving her hospitalized in Pittsburgh with head and body injuries.
State police Saturday arrested Leroy R. Bintrim, 44, after the suspected beating at this mother’s house in the 300 block of Stanford Road, where he also lives.
Investigators said the defendant and Janet Bintrim got into an argument about 11 a.m. He began shoving his mother and elbowed the elderly woman in the face, according to court documents.
Bintrim is accused of punching the victim in the body numerous times. Troopers said Janet Bintrim had at least 10 bruises on her body. She had a cut and more bruising on her face.
She was taken to Ellwood City Hospital before being transferred to an undisclosed Pittsburgh hospital for treatment “regarding internal brain damage” from the alleged assault, a police affidavit said.
Her condition was not known this morning.
District Judge Sue Haggerty arraigned Bintrim on a misdemeanor charge of simple assault and a summary charge of harassment.
He was placed in Butler County Prison on $5,000 bail following arraignment.
His preliminary hearing was tentatively set for Feb. 18 at the office of District Judge Tim Shaffer in Slippery Rock.
