Traffic stop leads to drug arrest

Jory Melik
Kittanning man held on charges

More than 200 stamp bags of suspected heroin, as well as suspected crack cocaine and prescription drugs, were seized following a weekend traffic stop in Clearfield Township, authorities said.

State police arrested Jory C. Melik, 31, of Kittanning, on felony and misdemeanor drug possession charges after he was pulled over for speeding on Route 422 east at McGrady Hollow about 10 a.m. Saturday.

A trooper running radar clocked Melik traveling 78 mph in a 55 mph zone at Route 422 and Moran Road, police said. He subsequently let police search his sport utility vehicle.

The search turned up 205 glassine bags that contained what police believe to be heroin. Police said they also found suspected crack, Suboxone, lorazepam, methadone and contraband that included two hypodermic needles and a drug-smoking device.

District Judge Lewis Stoughton arraigned Melik on a felony charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, and misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, and driving with a suspended license-DUI related. He also was cited for speeding.

He was placed in the Butler County Prison in lieu of $8,000 bond following arraignment. He's also being held on a probation violation, authorities said. A preliminary hearing is set May 26. Online court records did not indicate if he has an attorney.
