Jean Dreher

Jean Dreher, 81, of Butler passed away peacefully at 10:50 p.m. Tuesday surrounded by family at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born March 18, 1934, in Butler to the late Samuel Dickson and Anna (Smith) Dickson.

Mrs. Dreher was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Family Bible Sunday School Class. She participated in Women of the Church Circles, Katie's Kitchen and was a Sunday school teacher. She did publicity for St. Mark's for 20 years and in 1993 researched and wrote the 180-year history of St. Mark's Lutheran Church.

She was a secretary at Ft. Belvoir, Va., Butler Memorial Hospital, Byron Null Tax Accountant and the Butler School District, retiring in 1993. Mrs. Dreher compiled, researched and wrote the history of the Butler School District into a booklet called “A Collage of Decades, Deeds and Dreams.”

She was proud of her Irish heritage and enjoyed collecting P. Buckley Moss artwork. Mrs. Dreher enjoyed bowling, shuffleboard, golfing, cooking and baking. She was a homemade pie baker extraordinaire.

She also enjoyed the annual family vacation to Lakeside, Ohio. Mrs. Dreher was a published freelance writer, author of “Iron Horses Iron Men” and published articles in the Lutheran Standard Magazine.

She was an excellent seamstress, oil painter and a gifted poet. Jean was blessed with so many talents. She had a way of making whatever she did seem so special. Her sense of humor, loving spirit and graciousness will remain in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.

She is survived by her husband, Clair Dreher, who she married June 23, 1953; one daughter, Nancy Link and her husband, George, of Butler; two sons, Stephen Dreher and his wife, Pamela, of Butler and Jonathan and his wife, Kelly, of Oakmont; six grandchildren, Matthew Dreher and his wife, Ashlee, Michael Dreher and his wife, Christina, David Link, Ashley Link, Sam Dreher and Jed Dreher; one great-grandchild, Isaac Dreher; one sister, Anita Bowser of Chicora; one sister-in-law, Jan Benson; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Dickson and his wife, Ruth, and George Dickson; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Walter and Mary Dreher; one sister-in-law, Gertrude Dreher; and three brothers-in-law, Wayne Dreher, Joe Benson and Eugene Bowser.

DREHER — Friends of Jean Dreher, who died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2015, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 W. Jefferson St., Butler, with the Rev. Dr. Alden Towberman of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating.Burial will take place at the Gruenwald Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 W.
