William L. Suchonic

William L. Suchonic, 75, of Mercer Street died at 9:50 p.m. Friday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born in Butler, Jan. 27, 1929, he was the son of Michael J. and Katie Lucas Suchonic.

An alumnus of the New York Institute of Photography, he had been a photographer in the personnel relations department at Armco-Butler Works. He also was a ham radio operator and an avid hunter and fisherman.

Mr. Suchonic was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council, was an usher, belonged to the Christian education and property committees and did public relations.

He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, served with the 5th Regimental Combat Unit and received a Purple Heart. He remained active with the group through reunions. He was a member of VFW Post 249 and American Legion Post 778 of Lyndora.

Surviving are his wife, Peggy Edmiston Suchonic, whom he married June 26, 1951; four daughters, Cynthia Markham, Mrs. Joseph (Pamela) Furka and Mrs. Robert (Billie Jo) Wiest, all of Butler, and Mrs. David (Rebecca) Wigton of Bradenton, Fla.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. Catherine McDonald of Butler; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

SUCHONIC - Friends of William L. Suchonic, who died Friday, Oct. 1, 2004, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church with the Rev. Tim Bupp officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery.Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 249 after the church service.Memorial donations may be made to Grace Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 220 W.
