Michael Rock

Michael Rock, 84, of Lyndora died Saturday at his home.

Born Jan. 1, 1920, in Lyndora, he was a son of Stephen and Helen Wirwin Rock.

He had been a machinist at Pullman Standard for 29 years, retiring in December 1982.

During World War II, he was an Army tank gunner and earned the American Defense Service Medal and the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal for his combat service in Algeria, French Morocco, Northern France and Rhineland.

Mr. Rock was a member of the American Legion Michael Kosar Post 778 of Lyndora. He was an avid fisherman.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret M. Ballon Rock, whom he married Aug. 5, 1945; a son, Michael T. Rock of Bryn Mawr in Delaware County and of Alexandria, Va.; three daughters, Barbara Eckels of Slippery Rock, Mrs. Danny (Marsha) Cross of Princeton, Lawrence County, and Michele Rock of Middletown, Conn.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A brother, Andy Rock of Cleveland, Ohio, also survives.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

ROCK - Friends of Michael Rock, who died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME, 201 E. Cunningham St. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. George Palick officiating. Burial will follow at Butler County Memorial Park Cemetery, Butler Township.Memorial donations may be made to the Lyndora American Legion, 150 Memorial Legion Lane, Butler PA 16001.Military honors will be conducted by the Lyndora American Legion Ceremonial Squad.Information also is available at www.geibelfuneralhome.com.
