Focus Fitness opens doors downtown
In Butler’s world of fitness, Abbey Walsh is working on becoming queen.
Walsh, a 2006 graduate of Butler High School and the daughter of Sherri and David Wood, owners of the Home Improvement Center, 505 Negley Ave., has bought the Medical Arts Building at the corner of East Cunningham and South McKean streets.
After some updates to the building, Walsh opened Focus Fitness a few weeks ago. There she offers Zumba, Turbo Kick, Boot Camp, as well as other workout classes, including some children’s classes.
“My plan to make the building all health and wellness oriented,” she said.
She has a chiropractor and a podiatrist leasing office space, and will soon have an acupuncturist joining them.
Walsh has a bachelor’s in dental hygiene from the University of Pittsburgh and is working on a master’s degree in nutrition from the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut.
She said she worked to buy the building after spending three years teaching fitness classes in church basements, Ghost Riders in Center Township and other places with big rooms.
Walsh is married to Conlan Walsh, who is a math teacher in the Butler School District.
