County 4-H members take part in Junior Dairy Show

Ten Butler County 4-H members participated in the 2005 PA Junior Dairy Show held at the State Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg. 4-H and FFA members from across Pennsylvania competed in six dairy breed divisions at the 50th annual show.

In the Ayrshire division, Elaina Rader of Connoquenessing placed second with her Fall Yearling, third with her Winter Yearling, and fifth with her Spring Calf. Elaina also earned Master Showman awards with all three entries.

Justin Kennedy of Butler placed second and earned a Master Showman award with his Fall Calf in the Brown Swiss division. Justin also placed third with his entries in the Senior 2-year-old and Senior 3-year-old classes.

Adam Tuzikow, also of Butler, was recognized for his ninth place Senior 2-year-old entry.

In the Guernsey division, Nathan Boyle of Evans City captured first place, Best Animal Owned and Bred, and Master Showman awards with his Spring Yearling. He repeated these awards with entries in the Summer Yearling and Dry Cow 2 years and older classes.

Madelynn Marburger of Evans City captured second place in the Spring Yearling class.

Michelle Hartzell of Slippery Rock earned a Master Showman award in the Holstein division, placing eighth with her Summer Yearling.

In the Jersey division, Jacob Rassau of Sarver placed sixth with his Winter Yearling entry and eighth with his Senior 2-year-old entry. Jacob also earned Master Showman awards with both entries.

Nathan Rassau, also of Sarver, placed fifth and was named a Master Showman with a Junior 3-year-old entry.

Josh Osche of Cabot was recognized for his sixth place entry in the Summer Yearling class.

Sara Lang of Harrisville represented Butler County in the Milking Shorthorn division with her fourth place Dry Cow 2 years and older.

The Pennsylvania Junior Dairy Show represents the highest level of competition in the Pennsylvania 4-H dairy program. Exhibitors at the state level qualify for competition at district level shows held during the summer months. At the district level, entries are judged on individual merit with all blue merit animals qualifying for state competition.
