CRANBERRY TWP — US Liner has announced the hiring of Michael Manita as its vice president of manufacturing.

Manita has more than 25 years of experience.

US Liner is headquartered in the township and operates a manufacturing facility in Harmony. It manufactures composite materials used in trucks and trailers as well as in building and the military.

PROSPECT — Despite bitter cold, the Butler AM Rotary Club on Feb. 14 raised more than $9,300 at its 10th annual Sweetheart Gala at The Atrium.All proceeds from the event benefited the club's foundation that contributes to community causes and organizations. Over the years, the gala has raised more than $110,000.

Heather Cherry has been hired as the administrative coordinator for Don't Stop Dreamin', which is the nonprofit organization that fulfills wishes for residents of the nine Quality Life Services nursing homes in Western Pennsylvania.Cherry is responsible for coordinating “dream” applicants with facilitators, as well as the organization's administrative, marketing and fundraising functions.Previously, Cherry had a communication consulting business.

Business group gives to food bankSLIPPERY ROCK — The Slippery Rock Business Association recently presented a check to the Feed My Sheep Food Cupboard for $600.The donation came from proceeds from the association's Christmas party because Rooster's Coffee Bar donated the venue and North Country Brewing Co. donated the food.

The Tanglewood Center on Feb. 28 raised about $4,000 at a dinner theater event for the Butler City Police Department's K-9 officers, Gunner and Blade.More than 200 people attended. Sponsors included NexTier Bank, Peoples TWP, Butler Tires for Less, Butler Custom Catering and Butler Elks Lodge 170.

The Blue Book of Gun Values has recognized gunBlocker, a Butler County business, for developing one of the top 10 firearm innovations of 2015.gunBlocker's patent pending product works by locking inside the chamber of the gun, which blocks the barrel, action, slide and magazine tube, according to co-inventor Rich Wilson of Center Township, who also is a co-owner of the company.Wilson said the gunBlocker lock was designed to secure firearms more effectively when not in use than typical cable locks and trigger locks.
