Firefighters battle a house fire at 604 West Sunbury Road in Center Township on Thursday. Crews from Unionville, West Sunbury, Prospect, Oneida Valley, Lick Hill, Slippery Rock, East Butler, Chicora and Butler Ambulance Service responded. No injuries were reported.

CENTER TWP — A house fire that broke out before 6:30 p.m. Thursday required firefighters from at least eight fire departments.

The fire happened at 604 West Sunbury Road at a home owned by Paul and Irene Kiser, who both got out of the home uninjured.

Carol Kiser, daughter-in-law of the two, said her family was not able to talk but that the two had lived at the home for 65 years. Before that, the home was a one-room schoolhouse, she said.

By 7 p.m., the home was fully engulfed in flames, according to Carol Kiser.

Nathan Wulff, the chief of Unionville Volunteer Fire Department, said the cause of the fire could not be identified.

The fire started somewhere in the back of the home, and a state police fire marshal will investigate Saturday, Wulff said.

The Kisers will stay with family since the home was a total loss, according to Carol Kiser.

The Unionville Volunteer Fire Company was assisted by the Oneida Valley, Lick Hill, West Sunbury, Prospect, Chicora, Slippery Rock and East Butler fire departments.

Crews cleared the scene at 10:54 p.m.
