The Butler County Parks and Recreation Department will host the first of the Alameda Story Adventures from 11:30 a.m. to noon Thursday in the Rotary Shelter at Alameda Park.

The adventure series will continue each Thursday this summer. The free program is designed for children age 6 and younger, but all are welcome.

FREEPORT — Fizz Boom Read! is under way as the summer reading program for children pre-kindergarten to age 12 at Freeport Library, 428 Market St. The program continues until Aug. 31.The program includes incentives for each participant and prizes for those who complete 25 books.Participants do not need to be library members to participate. The first Moonlight Swim and Dive-in Movie of 2014 will be from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. Friday at Alameda Pool.There will be an admission fee for nonmembers. For more information, call the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department at 724-284-5383.

There will be a yard sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Mercer Road Fire Station, 127 Victor Road.Household items, clothes, books, toys, garden and yard tools, decorations, cat and dog items and more will be available. All proceeds will help Rainbow Animal Refuge.

PORTERSVILLE — The Muddy Creek Oil Field in Moraine State Park will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.There will be a display of clothing from the 1920s when many of the wells were drilled.The oil field is located off the 528 exit of Route 422 in Moraine State Park and has signs to follow, or call 724-285-5618 before Saturday for directions.

CRANBERRY TWP — As part of the adult summer reading program, Cranberry Public Library, 2525 Rochester Road, will host “Birds of Prey” presented by the Succop Conservancy from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.Call the library at 724-776-9100 to register or for more information.

Groove will be the first band in the Alameda Park Summer Concert Series at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Carousel Shelter. The band will perform a collection of rock, blues and country hits.For more information, call the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department at 724-284-5383.

LYNDORA — Every Tuesday afternoon, Tanglewood Center, 10 Austin Ave., will host bingo. Early birds begin at 12:45 p.m. and regular games begin at 1 p.m. For more information, call 724-287-0021.
