Julie 'Ulia' Gavula
Julie "Ulia" Gavula, 88, of 117 Gregden Road died Sunday morning at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born in Lyndora, Aug. 27, 1917, she was a daughter of John and Anna Sluk Zavacky.
She was a member of St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church in Lyndora.
Mrs. Gavula was a bird lover and bird watcher since the age of 6 and was a member of the National Audubon Society. She also was a music lover and taught herself to play the guitar, mandolin and ukulele. She loved to sing and had been a member of the church choir.
She enjoyed visiting antique shows and had a flair for home decorating and interior design. She also loved flower gardening and was knowledgeable about plants and flowers.
Surviving are a daughter, Alexandra Zulick of Butler; a son-in-law, David Zulick of Butler; four sisters, Amy Passarelli, Eugenia King and Christina Soley, all of Butler, and Georgia Hartman of New Castle; and a brother, John Zavacky of Lyndora. Three grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
She was the widow of Michael C. Gavula, who died Aug. 30, 1977. A brother and three sisters also preceded her in death.
<B>GAVULA</B> —- Friends of Julie "Ulia" Gavula, who died Sunday, May 7, 2006, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the <B>GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St. A funeral liturgy will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, 105 Kohler Ave., Lyndora. The Rev. Dennis Bogda will officiate.
