Saxonburg edges Meridian in Legion, 4-3
Hunter Balliet’s two-run single in the top of the seventh scored Zach Koller with the tying run and Tyler Smith with the eventual winning run as Saxonburg topped Meridian, 4-3 in Butler County Legion Baseball action Tuesday at Pullman Park.
Koller sparked the inning with a leadoff double.
Balliet ended the game with two singles, a double and four runs batted in for Saxonburg (8-3).
Taylor Sharer pitched a complete game for the win, allowing the three runs on six hits while striking out five and walking two.
Zakk Foringer, Kyle Peskowitz and Joey Friel each had an RBI single for Meridian.
• Alex Ziegler had six hits and picked up a victory on the mound in a pair of wins by Butler City in American Legion baseball action recently.
Ziegler had a single, double and a triple in an 18-0 win over Zelienople.
• Josh Friel was the winning pitcher in that contest and also had a pair of hits. Jordan Winters and Will Beichner collected three singles against Zelienople.
Ziegler struck out eight in five innings as Butler City toppled Slippery Rock, 14-2. Ziegler added two doubles and a single at the plate in that win for Butler City (6-8).
