Police search for bank robber
ZELIENOPLE — An unidentified, armed man robbed NexTier bank Tuesday afternoon before fleeing the scene minutes later with a bag of cash.
Police received reports of the robbery at 3:33 p.m. Three minutes later, Officer Bret Myers was on the scene, but the suspect had already fled out the rear of the building.
The man, who was reportedly armed with an unknown weapon and clad all in black, wore a black hooded sweat shirt, a mask and gloves during the robbery.
Police said around half a dozen people were inside when the man stormed into the building.
No one was injured in the robbery, though a woman was treated for shortness of breath following the incident, police said.
Police Chief Jim Miller said the man, who was armed, made off with an unspecified amount of money. The man was reportedly carrying a white garbage bag with the cash and fled down an alley behind the bank, toward Grandview Avenue.Miller said the man was only in the bank for a few minutes before fleeing. Officers arrived shortly thereafter, and a K9 unit was also called in to search the area.As of press time, police were still searching for the suspect.According to emergency dispatchers, the suspect is a white man about 5 feet 9 inches tall and wearing all black.
