Vehicle break-ins still plague Butler Township
BUTLER TWP — There appears to be no relief in the rash of vehicle break-ins that have plagued the township for weeks.
At least eight vehicles were ransacked overnight Tuesday into Wednesday, according to Butler Township police.
The vehicles were apparently unlocked and parked on Kennedy, Kerry, Longview and Magnolia drives. Currency and coins were the primary items reportedly taken.
Two days earlier, five vehicles — three on Morningside Drive and two on Dolphin Drive — were ransacked sometime between Sunday night and Monday morning. Police believe those vehicles, too, were not locked.
At least five unlocked vehicles were entered between the night of Nov. 5 and the morning of Nov. 6. Police noted the vehicles were parked “within walking” distance of one another on Avon, Elizabeth, Linsdale and Oakdale drives.
Most of the owners reported that only loose change was taken. But one owner told officers that a .40-caliber pistol was missing from his car on Avon Drive, said police Lt. Matthew Pearson.
Between Nov. 1 and 2, police said, two vehicles were entered on Crisswell Road in the southern part of the township near the Penn Township line.
Additional vehicles were ransacked on Crisswell Road in Penn Township as well as on nearby Mushrush Road, also in Penn, according to authorities.
Pearson previously reported that at least two vehicles Oct. 20 were reportedly broken into on Acre and Hazlett avenues, and five vehicles Oct. 8 were entered on Mercer Road.
He said that police suspect at least some of the break-ins are connected, and more than one person is involved.
Investigators were unavailable Wednesday and it was not immediately known if police have any suspects.
Police continue to urge residents to lock their vehicles and remove their valuables.
