Firecracker 100 qualifying begins at Lernerville

Scott Bloomquist may have placed second at last year's Firecracker 100, but he got off to a flying start in first day qualifying Thursday at Lernerville Speedway.

Bloomquist, of Mooresburg, Tenn., took the lead on Lap 27 of the 30-lap A-Main to capture the $6,000 prize.

Another round of qualifying will take place Friday, with another $6,000 at stake before Saturday's 100-lap, $30,000 to win event.

Mike Marler of Winfield, Tenn. led most of the race before being tapped by a lapped car, which allowed Bloomquist to take the lead.

John Garvin Jr., of Sarver, and Dan Swartzlander, of Freeport, placed 21st and 24th, respectively, in the feature race to highlight the area drivers.

Both placed second in their respective heats to advance to Thursday's final.

On Friday, gates open at 5 p.m. with hot laps starting at 6:50 p.m.
