The Lucases in 1961

Virgil and Kathy Lucas of Butler celebrated 50 years of marriage with an open house and family dinner Dec. 3 at The Succop Conservancy.

Lucas married the former Kathryn Jakob Dec. 23, 1961, in Akron, Ohio.

They have two children, Diane Kaine of Evans City and Christine Stalnaker of Jefferson, Md.

They also have one granddaughter.

Lucas is retired from the Butler School District where he was a teacher and administrator.

Mrs. Lucas is a retired administrative assistant for the Butler School District.

They both served as Sunday school teachers at Community Alliance Church.

Lucas has also served as an elder, board member and worked on various building projects.

Mrs. Lucas has served as a vacation Bible school coordinator, deaconess and choir member.
