An article in Thursday’s newspaper (“S. Butler board approves panel’s contract,” Page 1) included incorrect information on pay scale levels in a proposed contract created by an arbitration panel in South Butler School District.

In fact, the teachers would receive what is known as “step movement” during those years.

If the arbitrators’ retroactive contract is approved by teachers, they would receive no increase for the 2014-15 school year, step movement only in the 2015-16 and 2016-17 school years, and step movement plus $1,200 added to step 20 only in the 2017-18 school year.

The teachers would continue to receive step movement throughout the remainder of the eight-year contract, which would expire in the 2021-22 school year.

The teachers would also receive a 3 percent increase in the 2018-19 year and a 3.5 percent increase each year in the three remaining contract years.

The three-man nonbinding arbitration board voted unanimously earlier this month to approve a contract that was based on seven issues causing the four-year stalemate between the district and teachers.

The school board approved the panel’s contract at their meeting on Wednesday night, and the teachers will vote on it next Wednesday, June 13.
