Boy left home alone

An 8-year-old autistic boy was left at home alone in the dark and scared for more than two hours, according to police who charged the boy’s mother with child endangerment.

Lisa Marie Black, 35, of Butler Township allegedly left the boy at her Woodbury Drive home alone Thursday night, according to a criminal affidavit filed by Butler Township Police.

A power outage left the boy in the dark, and after his attempts to contact his mother by her cell phone failed, he called 911, according to the court records.

“The 8-year-old child was upset and was scared since the power was out,” according to a criminal affidavit.

The police arrived at the home, and eventually reached Black by calling her mother, Maureen Black of South Carolina.

When Black returned to the residence, she told police she left her son alone because she was being driven to a hospital by a friend for an apparent seizure. She further told police that she never checked into a hospital because the seizure had ended.

“The (officer) was confident (Black) was not going to give a truthful answer about exactly where she had been, however, the issue at hand was (Black) leaving (the child) without supervision for over two hours,” the court record states, noting that Butler County Children and Youth Services were contacted.

Black is charged with a misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a child endangerment.
