BUTLER TWP — One wild inning by Dallas O'Donnell set up one wild finish for Pine-Richland.

O'Donnell pitched three scoreless innings at the Rams to begin Wednesday's baseball game at Highfield Park and needed only 33 pitches to do so.

Leading 2-0, the Butler left-hander walked two consecutive hitters to load the bases with two outs in the fourth and started off No. 7 hitter Cono Passione with a ball. The next pitch was down the middle and Passione drilled a grand slam down the left field line.

Pine-Richland caught fire from there and cruised to an 11-2 victory.

"That was a momentum-changer, that's for sure,"Butler coach Dave Florie said.

O'Donnell allowed only two singles in the first three innings. Matt Berezo reached on an infield error to begin the Pine-Richland fourth. The walks to T.J. Kuban and Brendan Scioscia occurred with two outs.

Passione was a starter on the Rams' WPIALchampionship team two years ago. A fractured bone limited his playing time a year ago. He produced the grand slam, a double, a single and six RBIWednesday.

"He's a good hitter. Hopefully, this was a good breakout game for him, maybe for our entire team,"Pine-Richland coach Kurt Wolfe said.

Rams hitters struck out only four times total in Pine-Richland's first two games — 8-4 and 6-2 losses.

The visitors followed Passione's grand slam with two more runs in the sixth and five in the seventh. Ten of the Rams' 14 hits occurred during the final two innings.

O'Donnell was greeted with four consecutive singles in the sixth. Brendan Scioscia's bunt single plated one run and Passione's single to center scored another to give the Rams a 6-2 lead.

Butler's Luke Dugger took over on the mound with runners at second and third and no one out. Dugger struck out the first two batters he faced, then loaded the bases with a hit batsman.

Berezo hit a liner to right that right fielder Dustin Uhlman made a lunging catch on to keep the Golden Tornado within 6-2.

"When we got out of that inning, I felt like we had a chance,"Florie said. "We just couldn't get anything going."

Butler entered the game having scored 51 runs in its first five games. Jordan Roycroft's RBIdouble and a run-scoring single by Bill Coleman in the first inning was all the offense could muster Wednesday.

The Tornado had runners thrown out at the plate in the third and fourth innings. Roycroft tried scoring from second on a Coleman single to right in the third. Ryan Geibel tried tagging up and scoring from third on a shallow fly ball to center in the fourth.

Winning pitcher Derek Schleiden threw 32 pitches in the opening frame, but he threw only 28 pitches over the next three innings before being relieved with two outs in the fifth.

The Tornado now have allowed 51 runs on the season — 8.4 per game — including 11 runs in each of their first two section games.

"Our pitchers have to pitch better, get a little sharper,"Florie said. "But we've been facing some really good hitting teams."
