BUTLER TWP— The Butler baseball team will have some work to do when its section game against Pine-Richland resumes today.

The Golden Tornado (8-4, 5-2) trailed 1-0 in the top of the second inning Wednesday at Highfield Park when a thunderstorm forced the contest to be suspended.

Play will resume at 4 p.m. today at Highfield with the visiting Rams having the bases loaded, one out and an 0-2 count on No. 9 hitter Brad Lalli.

Pine-Richland (6-6, 2-4) scored in the first inning against Tornado starting pitcher Zach Cuffman. The Rams' Mitch Elliot singled to center and moved to second on a ground out to first base.

When Butler first baseman John Crummy's throw to second sailed into left field, Elliot advanced to third. He scored on a two-out double to left by T.J. Kuban.

After Butler went down in order in the bottom of the first, a one-out walk to the Rams' Matt Yoklic and singles by Steve Freehling and Brad Hammer loaded the bases for Pine- Richland before the storm came.

Rams starting pitcher Vinny Nittoli struck out two of the three batters he faced in the opening frame.

Butler began the day tied with Shaler for second place in Section 1-AAAA. Both teams trail Seneca Valley by a game.

The Tornado scored an 11-5 win at Pine-Richland on April 5.
