Clarion-Limestone's J.P. Pezzuti hit a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Lions a 9-8 victory over A-C Valley in the first round of the District 9 Class A playoffs Tuesday.

The Falcons had jumped out to an early 5-0 lead, thanks in part to a two-run double by Blayne McGuirk in the first inning.

The Lions plated two runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game and another run in the eighth to send the game to another extra inning.

• Keystone blanked Union 10-0 in a six-inning contest in the first round of the District 9 Class A playoffs.

Keystone pitcher Matt Bashline faced only one batter over the minimum — a Clay Burns single to open the game — in leading the Panthers to the win.

Keystone rapped out 12 hits including two doubles, a single and four RBI from Gary Stephens.
