BUTLER TWP — Todd Erdos was approved as the next head coach of the Butler High varsity baseball team at a school board meeting Monday evening.

He follows Dave Florie, who resigned in June after guiding the team to a 57-43 record and three playoff appearances in five years.

Erdos pitched in the major leagues with the New York Yankees (1998-2000), Boston (2001) and San Diego (1997, 2000).

He served as an assistant coach at North Allegheny in 2008.

"We felt that he brings an added dimension, with his major league experience," said Butler athletic director Bill Mylan. "Plus, he has experience as a coach with a high school team."

Erdos, a resident of Cranberry Township, did not return several phone messages Monday night.
