CLARION — Cole Smith singled and homered while scoring two runs and driving in two, but the A-C Valley baseball team fell to Clarion, 10-9 in nine innings Thursday in the District 9 Class A quarterfinals.

The Falcons trailed 6-3 entering the seventh inning, but plated four runs to take a 7-6 lead.

The Bobcats (15-2) answered with a run in the bottom of the frame to force extra innings. Both squads scored a pair of runs in the eighth before Clarion ended it with a tally in the next inning.

Kevin Kaufman added a single, two runs scored and three batted in for the Falcons (12-4).

A-C Valley had reached the second round of the playoffs with a 12-0 win over Cameron County Tuesday.
