Butler baseball tops North Hills in playoff push
Matt Baranchak worked 5 1/3 innings for the win and Mick Fennell got the save as the Butler baseball team stayed alive in the Section 1-AAAA playoff chase Tuesday with a 6-4 win at North Hills.
Baranchak tripled and doubled, while Colin Williamson had two singles for the Golden Tornado (11-4, 6-4), who built a 6-0 lead through four innings. Butler hosts Franklin Regional in a non-section game today at 7 p.m.
Elsewhere:
• A-C Valley's Logan McNamara outdueled Karns City's Derek Sadowski in a 3-1 affair in the second game of a doubleheader.
McNamara struck out nine and did not walk a batter in a complete game while Sadowski fanned eight without a walk.
The Falcons received a single and two RBIs from Jeff Eaton.
In the first game, KC's Nathan Weckerly, Wyatt Everetts and Sadowski each hit a home run in a 12-2, six-inning win.
• Josh Stockert had two doubles, a single and three RBIs and pitcher Joe Holfelder homered in Moniteau's 17-1 win at Keystone.
