Kutztown wins PSAC baseball title
After winning seven of its final eight Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference regular season games to qualify for the conference tournament, Kutztown claimed the PSAC title Saturday at Kelly Automotive Park,.
The Golden Bears (29-19) rode a shutout by tournament MVP Brandon Shimo to a 1-0 victory over top-seeded Millersville.
Shimo scattered seven hits and struck out seven in the win. He also worked two scoreless frames in a first-round win over Seton Hill while picking up two wins in the tourney.
Ricky Gorrell doubled to lead off the fourth inning, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored the game’s only run on a sacrifice fly by Brandon Martinez.
Millersville (36-14) stranded runners in eight of the nine innings. Losing pitcher Tad Barton allowed only three hits in eight innings.
Kutztown won its first PSAC baseball title since 2008 and will take a six-game winning streak into the NCAA Atlantic Regional.
