Mustello launches re-election bid
Six months wasn't enough for Marci Mustello.
Mustello, R-11th, announced Monday she will run for re-election.
“My focus is still on providing the service of my constituents and for advocating for Butler County which I have always done,” Mustello said.
Mustello won a special election in May to replace Brian Ellis, who resigned from the House in March.
She defeated Democratic candidate Sam Doctor.
Since taking over the 11th district, Mustello said she has been working hard to tap into the mentality of her constituents.
“Really I have been more of a listener over these past six months. Listening and learning,” she said. “I really leave it up to the people I serve to see what they would like to see done.”
Since taking office, Mustello voted in favor of assisting first responders with flexible funding and improving their access to training through a credit program.
She also voted on bills to help modernize the state's election process.
In November, Mustello spoke on the House floor regarding a bill which included telemedicine sponsored by Rep. Elder Vogel, R-47th.
“Living in a rural area, we need all the access we can get to health care,” she said. “These rural areas need to have some other sort of avenue they can use for their health care. I think telemedicine provides that to them.”
Mustello said in the upcoming race she plans to stand by her record and her more than 20 years of experience working with area leaders and officials at all levels of government.
She said her background made her transition into office go well, and she believes it will attract voters.
“I'm going to run my own race as I've done in the past,” she said. “It's what will benefit me and what will set me apart.”
