CHARLOTTE, N.C. —Sprint car racing standout Ed Lynch Jr. of Apollo was listed among the decade's Dazzling Dozen Sprinters by speedtv.com writer Jim Chiappelli.

Lynch was recognized for his multiple track championships and reaching the 100-victory plateau at Lernerville Speedway.

He was 11th on Chiappelli's list, trailing Steve Kinser, Donny Schatz, Danny Lasoski, Fred Rahmer, Terry McCarl, Joey Saldana, Mark Kinser, Jason Meyers, Craig Dollansky and Chad Kemenah.

PITTSBURGH — The Elite Athletic Center, based in Butler, fared well at the recent Steel City Invitational Gymnastics Meet.Jack Codispot won first place in Level 5 all-around with an 86.6. He scored a 15 in floor exercise, 14.8 on vault, 14.6 on parallel bars and high bar, 13.9 on pommel horse and 13.7 on rings.Codispot, Lev McCollough and Nick Vaccarello took second place in the Level 5 overall competition. Jacob Minton took two seconds and a third in Level 6 and Connor Minton took second in all-around in Level 4.

Karns City defensive lineman Jake Wagner and Moniteau linebacker Jacob Boy earned first-team Class AA all-state honors from the Pennsylvania Football News.The Gremlins' Tylar Parker was tapped for the third-team offensive line and teammate Brandon Collier was named to the third team at defensive back.Karns City's Aaron Markle received an honorable mention at linebacker.

Five Butler County area volleyball players received all-state recognition from the Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association.Seneca Valley senior middle hitter Kelly Treser and sophomore middle hitter Cate Seman earned honors in Class AAA, Freeport senior outside hitter Carlie Bieranowski and Mars senior middle hitter Camblin Leonard were honored in Class AA.Union senior middle hitter Lepha Logue picked up honors in Class A.
