‘Secret Santa’ pays off meal accountsHERMINIE — A secret Santa has paid off the outstanding meal accounts for students at a Western Pennsylvania elementary school.Amy Larcinese is the principal at H.W. Good Elementary School in Herminie.The principal told KDKA-TV that some students can’t afford to keep their cafeteria accounts up to date for the two meals they receive in school each day.So an anonymous donor showed up Wednesday and asked to settle all unpaid accounts, and also paid for the lunches for one child for the rest of the month after learning that pupil had an especially large account balance.The principal said the donor used to have a child in the school and “just wanted to give back to the district.”As for his identity, Larcinese says she’s sworn to secrecy.

Trump ‘Thank You Tour’ visits Dec. 15HERSHEY — Republican president-elect Donald Trump and running mate Mike Pence will be thanking Pennsylvania voters at an event Dec. 15.Trump and Pence’s “Thank You Tour” stops at the Giant Center in Hershey at 7 p.m. Doors open at 4 p.m.Tickets to the event are free.Trump has already visited North Carolina and planned a similar rally in Iowa on Thursday. He’s scheduled to visit Michigan and Louisiana today.

Pair jailed in death of disabled manVERONA — A couple has been jailed in the allegedly neglect death of a disabled man who weighed just 76 pounds when he died last year.Adam Haynes, 48 and Pamela McNeal, 58, of Verona, were charged with criminal homicide, neglect of a care dependent person and other charges Wednesday after the Allegheny County medical examiner ruled 54-year-old David Fuhrman’s death a homicide.The married couple had cared for Fuhrman, who county police say had the mentality of a young child, since his caregiver died about 15 years ago.Fuhrman was found dead in bed last November after Haynes called 911. He was suffering from bed sores and malnourishment. The medical examiner determined Fuhrman died from a blood infection caused by bed sores and pneumonia.
