Scoop apologizes to local gridders
Sorry, Moniteau.
My apologies, Freeport.
Oops, Slippery Rock.
I picked against all three of those teams last week and all three of those teams came up with big victories.
Epic fail.
Hey, when I mess up, I own up to it.
But it wasn't all bad. I nailed the Butler win and I knew Mars would find a way to topple Hampton — I just didn't figure it would take three defensive stops at the Planets' own 1 in overtime to do it.
Let's see if I can get a perfect week. On to the picks:
•
Pine-Richland 21, Butler 16 — Man, I really want to pick the Golden Tornado to end a very long section losing streak.I ... just ... can't bring myself to do it. I hope I'm wrong.•
McKeesport 34, Seneca Valley 31 — The Raiders are the Greatest Show on Turf. Unfortunately, that doesn't always mean victories. Still, their fastbreak offense is fun to watch.•
Knoch 33, Fox Chapel 11 — Yawn. Just a 22-point win for the Knights this week. Slackers.•
Indiana 20, Mars 13 — The young Planets have to lose sometime ... don't they?•
Burrell 13, Freeport 12 — While Seneca Valley is the sleek, new-age high school football offense, playing on turf with a pass-a-minute attack, the Yellowjackets prefer to slug it out in the mud ... even if it's not raining. But sometimes, you lose those slobberknockers.•
Karns City 30, Keystone 11 — The scoreboard said the Gremlins lost by 29 points last week to Wilmington, but Karns City was in the game and had all the momentum in the fourth quarter. The Gremlins will rebound this week.•
Moniteau 33, Redbank Valley 11 — I like this score. I like the Warriors, too.•
Union 30, Maplewood 14 — The Golden Knights are a scary team. They have a lot of firepower on offense and an underrated defense. This could be the year Union finds a way to get on a roll and makes the playoffs. The roll starts this week against an overmatched Maplewood team.•
Brookville 38, A-C Valley 12 — The Falcons have been getting off to good starts this season — they led after one quarter last week. The problem has been sustaining that momentum throughout the game.Another quick beginning, another disappointing ending for A-C Valley.•
Meadville 39, Slippery Rock 21 — Meadville has been racking up huge rushing numbers against inferior teams.Slippery Rock's offense is much improved, but the Bulldogs are just too talented.•
Grove City 46, Greenville 8 — Lets' see if defending Butler Eagle Scoring Trophy winner Wes Phipps can keep his yards per carry average at 17.•
Summit Academy 42, West Shamokin 12 — Chris Highsmith may score all 42 points for the Knights in this game.Scoop wants to be the new quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts.
