Moniteau still perfect
NEW BETHLEHEM — The Moniteau football team continued to rack up the points in a dominating 50-28 victory at Redbank Valley Friday night.
The Warriors (4-0) stayed undefeated with another high scoring affair, following last week's 43-21 win over Brookville.
Moniteau coach Jeff Campbell credits his offensive line for both wins.
“The offensive line was opening the holes and we were able to run the ball,” Campbell said. “They own the 50 points.”
Dustin Geagan ran through the holes Friday, rushing for 184 yards on 20 carries. David Campbell added 51 yards on the ground.
Leading 44-28 going into the fourth, the Warriors drained the clock for most of the period.
Moniteau quarterback Kyle Armagost added to the lead with a 1-yard touchdown run with 10:20 left in the game.
Armagost finished with 192 yards passing with three touchdowns and added 68 yards rushing and two scores.
The two teams combined for 44 points in the second quarter. Geagan had a 30-yard touchdown run, and Armagost punched one in from the 2.
Moniteau's Joey Deal recovered a fumble in the end zone after a high snap during a Redbank punt attempt.
Armagost's 28-yard scoring strike to Brayden McCorry accounted for the Warriors' other score in the second quarter. Ethan Pry hauled in a 50-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter, as well.
Redbank freshman quarterback Jake Dougherty injured his ankle early in the first quarter, Bulldogs coach Frank Fabian said. Dougherty stayed in the game, finishing with 87 yards passing and one interception and 27 yards on the ground.
“As a ninth grader, you never know what you're going to get,” Fabian said of Dougherty. “I think the best is yet to come.”
The Bulldogs scored first when Mark Strothers ran the opening kickoff back 85 yards for a touchdown.
Strothers finished with 171 rushing yards and five receptions for 22 yards.
“They are resilient,” Fabian said. “We are going to play until there is no time left.”
Moniteau will try to stay undefeated when it hosts St. Marys Friday.
