CRANBERRY TWP — A transition at the Brush Creek Treatment Plant on Powell Road later this month will increase noise temporarily in Cranberry.

For two days during the week of Jan. 21, weather permitting, a large diesel pump will be in operation on the east side of Powell Road near the plant.

That pump will divert wastewater while a connection is made to the new inflow station, which has been built as part of upgrades at the plant.

The diesel pump will be operating continuously for 48 hours, and will be illuminated and staffed by technicians for the duration. A backup unit will be on hand in case it is needed.

A sound reduction barrier will be put in place to reduce the noise from the pump.

While work is happening, the northern end of the Graham Park Trail will be closed for the protection of both contractors and park visitors. No vehicle traffic restrictions are planned.

The township’s engineering department has attempted to reach out to residents within 2,000 feet of the temporary pump station with letters and other correspondence to let them know the noise will be temporary, that there is no risk to residents’ safety and that the work is essential to open the upgraded treatment plant.
