SLIPPERY ROCK — Butler graduate and Slippery Rock University senior relief ace Wyatt Daugherty has been named PSAC West Pitcher of the Week.

The Rock’s Joe Campagna has been named PSAC West Baseball Athlete of the Week.

Daugherty went 1-0 last week with one save, a 0.00 earned run average, seven strikeouts and no walks in four games. Campagna hit .517 (15-for-29) in eight games, including three home runs, a double, nine RBI and eight runs scored.

Cubs boxer Mowry in GG nationals

Butler Cubs heavyweight boxer Brian Mowry, 22, won the Pennsylvania Gold Gloves championship by scoring a unanimous decision over John Demus of Boyce A.C. over the weekend.

Demus had defeated Mowry by TKO the last time the two fought.

Mowry (16-3) will compete in the National Gold Gloves May 5-11 in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Cubs boxer Tyler Funk was awarded a Gold Gloves victory at 119 pounds by forfeit.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Former Butler Cubs amateur boxer Lucas Adams dropped his second professional fight over the weekend, losing a four-round unanimous decision to Matt Wright of Morgantown.

Adams, fighting at light heavyweight, dropped to 1-1 as a pro.

ERIE — Seneca Valley graduates Brady Kress and John Brittner played key roles in Penn State Behrend’s 7-4 baseball win over Allegheny on Monday.

Kress, a senior pitcher, made his first collegiate start and allowed two earned runs in six innings, striking out three. Brittner had a double and two singles.

Behrend (14-7) has won 12 of its last 14 games.
