KC pitcher sparks Gremlins' victory

A Deer Lakes runner slides under the tag of Mars' Zach Zollner at third base during the Planets' 3-0 victory Tuesday.

Ashton Pakutz pitched a complete-game one-hitter and struck out 14 batters to lead the Karns City softball team to a 2-1 victory over Ford City Tuesday.

Haley Callihan had a double, a single and two RBI for the Gremlins.

In other games:

• Lizz King and Jade Thrower each doubled for Knoch (2-0) and the Knights tallied four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning in a 5-3 victory over Burrell.

Stephanie Fincher picked up the win after pitching an inning of relief.

• Brie Berkopec doubled twice and her sister, Brittany, doubled and tripled, but Mars fell to Deer Lakes 7-6.

The Planets (0-1) were up 6-3 entering the bottom of the seventh inning, but surrendered four runs to the Lancers in their last at bat.
