Quick start pushes Knoch to victory

C.J. Wise of Knoch competes in the triple jump during Thursday's meet with Butler. The Golden Tornado boys beat the Knights 104-46.

Knoch scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning and rode that offensive spurt to a 7-2 softball win over Deer Lakes Thursday afternoon.

Lizz King doubled and drove in three runs for the Knights (4-0) while Chelsea Martin struck out five batters in relief.

In other action:

• Seneca Valley gave up a run in the top of the eighth inning in a 1-0 defeat to Montour.

Dana Hughes singled and doubled for SV while Julie Marlowe singled twice in the loss.

• Freshman pitcher Chelsea Filer struck out 10 in seven innings and Katie Stewart went 4-for-4 with an RBIto lead Grove City to a season-opening victory over Sharon, 10-4.

• Martina Burk collected four hits, including a double, and struck out seven in seven innings to lead Moniteau to a 13-5 win over Keystone.
