Police arrest two men on drug charges

Brent Kennard

Butler Township police say they caught two men with dozens of bags of suspected heroin during an investigation of reported drug activity Thursday at a home on Deshon Court.

Brent D. Kennard, 31, of Clay Township, and David L. Weichey Jr., 37, of Lyndora, are both in the Butler County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bond each. Both are charged with felony and misdemeanor drug possession.

Police said officer David Tedeski, while investigating a report of drug activity, came upon two men — one outside a car and one in the front passenger seat of a car — along the side of the road in front of the Deshon Court home about 5:40 p.m.

The officer, who suspected a hand-to-hand drug deal, pulled his police vehicle in front of the car. He identified Kennard as the man outside the car and Weichey as the passenger in the car.

Police said Kennard had both hands clenched, suggesting he was holding something. He appeared to have a large amount of money in his left hand.

When the suspect turned away, police said, the officer noticed three bundles of suspected heroin fall from his right hand to the ground. In all, 27 bags — marked “Killer” — were recovered from the ground.

A search of Kennard turned up 24 additional bags and 22 empty bags in two of his pockets, police said. All those bags, too, were marked “Killer.” He also had $272 in his hand.

Police said when they had Weichey get out of the car, they saw a bag of suspected heroin on his seat. They also allegedly found 42 bags between the seat and door frame and three more bags in one of his pockets.“Weichey stated to three officers that he would take possession for all the heroin inside of the vehicle,” according to charging documents. He told police that he did not want the driver to get in trouble.Police said the name “Killer” was on the bags that Weichey had. He also was found with $396.District Judge Sue Haggerty arraigned Kennard and Weichey on felony charges of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and conspiracy to possess with intent to deliver a controlled substance, and misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.Preliminary hearings for both defendants are tentatively set for Thursday. It was not known if they have attorneys.
