Franklin Township to pave 3 roads

After not taking on any paving projects in 2020 because of budget uncertainty, Franklin Township supervisors scheduled three roads for paving in 2021.

At Monday's meeting, supervisors chose Isle, Maser and McCall roads to be paved this year by Shields Asphalt Paving Inc. for $367,600.

Herman Bauer Jr., supervisor chairman, said Tuesday that supervisors normally evaluate the township's roads each year and choose a few for repaving.

“The supervisors have a yearly run around the township with the road supervisor, where we try to put together a forecast for the next four or five years,” Bauer said. “Those roads are now in the cycle and will be done this year.”

Supervisors also approved a new contract with Tri-County Industries for trash and recycling services.

According to Bauer, township employees were recycling items used by the township at their homes. However, the amount of material has increased. Employees will now recycle items at the township office, and the cost for pickup will be relatively low, Bauer said.

“The cost will be less than $1,000 to the township, but the employees were actually saving us money,” Bauer said. “The employees recycled paper and the like for the township, and we are creating more than we ever did, and it became burdensome to them.”
