Poor weather postpones playoff action
The District 10 Class AA girls soccer quarterfinals were postponed Monday due to poor weather, along with Tuesday’s WPIAL and District 9 soccer and volleyball action.
Slippery Rock (11-6-1) girls soccer has been rescheduled to play Harbor Creek (12-2-3) at General McLane’s Lineden Field on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Grove City (11-5) had its venue changed, as the Eagles will now play Mercyhurst Prep at Harbor Creek’s Paul J. Weitz Stadium on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Tuesday’s WPIAL postseason action is now slated for Wednesday:
• Mars girls and boys soccer will play a doubleheader at Gateway. Both teams will square off against Belle Vernon, with the girls starting and 6 p.m. and the boys at 8 p.m.
• Seneca Valley girls soccer will face Bethel Park at Chartiers Valley at 6 p.m.
• Freeport girls volleyball takes on Ambridge at Seneca Valley at 7:30 p.m.
• Mars girls volleyball tangles with South Fayette at North Hills, starting at 6 p.m.
Karns City boys and girls soccer will play a doubleheader at Brockway on Thursday.
Freshman HockeyThe Knoch freshman hockey team opened its season with a 9-4 win over Deer Lakes recently.Paul Maust led the way with six goals and two assists while Cameron Ruk, Austin Heade and Sevryn Napora each scored once.Napora added a pair of assists and Mike Riley one.Goalies Luke Hentschel and Josh Freehling combined to stop 24 of 28 shots.
