Two dogs die in Franklin Township fire
FRANKLIN TWP —Two pet dogs died Tuesday in a fire that started in the kitchen of a house and spread into the attic.
Firefighters managed to stop the fire that started at 112 Grindel Road just before 9:20 a.m., but two dogs succumbed to the smoke, said Ken Wilson, assistant chief of the Prospect Volunteer Fire Department.
The residents were not home when the fire started, he said. A neighbor called 911 and reported seeing smoke coming from the eaves of the two-story home.
“It’s not a total loss,” Wilson said. “It started in the kitchen, flamed up through the walls to the attic.” The kitchen and attic sustained fire and smoke damage, he said.
No one was injured.
The Center Township, Portersville, Slippery Rock and Unionville volunteer fire departments also responded to the fire.
