Man charged with evading police officers
A Slippery Rock man who allegedly lost police twice while being chased in March was charged Wednesday.
Brandon J. Gurowski, 28, was charged by Butler Township Police with a felony charge of fleeing to elude officers; misdemeanor reckless endangerment; and 10 summary traffic offenses, stemming from the March 15 chase.
Police said they initially spotted a yellow Ford Ranger that had an expired inspection and attempted a traffic stop on the pickup, which later was identified as Gurowski's.
Police allege Gurowski sped up and cut through multiple parking lots to evade them.
“The parking lot was occupied by pedestrians at the time of the incident,” said the investigating officer in the affidavit.
According to police, officers tried to follow the truck on New Castle Road, but stopped due to safety concerns.
Police said they also received calls from dispatchers that day about a yellow Ranger that struck a tree in front of Sam's Club and drove through the Moraine Pointe Plaza parking lot.
Later that day, police located the truck traveling on a private road on Krendale Golf Course.
“I activated my emergency lights again and turned around,” the officer said. “The actor's vehicle also turned around, driving east through a field, then through the yard of (a) North Eberhart Road (home).”
Police said in the second incident, Gurowski drove through multiple properties and fields. They said at one point, Gurowski drove between two trees, knocking off both side mirrors.
According to police, one of the final moments before they stopped the second chase was when Gurowski drove his truck the wrong way into a limited access zone of Route 422.
Police said they stopped the chase again because they feared it posed a danger to others on the road. Police said throughout both chases, Gurowski was speeding and passing vehicles in an unsafe manner.
A tip the following day informed police Gurowski was sitting outside Walmart in Butler Township.
According to documents, police talked with Gurowski, who admitted to leading police on the chase because “he doesn't want to go back to prison.”
Gurowski has served multiple prison sentences.
Police said they also noticed Gurowski was shaking, unsteady and seemed to have trouble following the conversation.
According to documents, officers arrested Gurowski and searched him, finding three Buprenorphine and Naloxone strips; two full stamp bags of suspected heroin; and nine empty stamp bags of suspected heroin.
According to the court documents, no drug-related charges were filed.
A preliminary hearing has yet to be scheduled.
