9:35 a.m. Friday — Javen N. Evans, 19, of Butler was arrested on robbery charges after he allegedly shoplifted about $21 in merchandise from the Dollar General on North Main Street and shoved a store manager in his attempted getaway.Evans' suspected accomplice, a 15-year-old Butler boy, who police did not identify, also was nabbed and is charged in juvenile court.Police said employees spotted the boy placing clothing items in Evans' backpack while the pair were in the store. When a manager confronted Evans at the front door, he allegedly pushed her out of the way. The manager nearly fell but she was not injured.Evans and the boy beat it out of the store. Sheriff's deputies joined in the chase after they saw the suspects running down West North Street, according to court documents. One of the deputies fired his Taser at the youth, but missed, police said.A short time later, Evans was arrested at his apartment in the 400 block of West North Street. The boy also was eventually found and turned over to juvenile court authorities.Evans was arraigned on charges of robbery and conspiracy, and placed in the Butler County Prison on $15,000 bail.

Tuesday — Police charged Robert S. McKivigan, 43, of Butler with theft by deception after he failed to honor a deal he made April 6 to sell four truck tires. McKivigan allegedly took full payment for the tires but did not deliver the tires to the intended buyer.

Friday — A person who police did not identify was assaulted inside the Cooper Industrial Commons on Lincoln Avenue by an unknown white male wearing a dark hooded sweat shirt and blue jeans. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-458-7925.7:30 p.m. Thursday — An unknown burglar broke into a home in the 600 block of Superior Street. Police did not say if any property was stolen. Anyone with information is asked to call police.

May 29 — Police charged Deatrice A. James, 21, of Cranberry Township with signing her older sister's name to a ticket following a traffic stop May 13 at South Main Street and Perry Way.Officers had pulled over James' car about 4:30 p.m. for having an expired inspection sticker.It turned out, according to court documents, that a state constable already was looking for her in connection with an unrelated warrant.James is charged in the traffic stop with tampering with records or identification, false identification to police, driving with a suspended license and driving without valid inspection.

6:40 p.m. Tuesday — Sherry R. Altmire, 43, of Emlenton was arrested after allegedly shoplifting $300 in merchandise from the Boscov's store, Clearview Mall in Center Township. Police said Altmire, who is accused of taking sunglasses, jewelry and clothing, is charged with retail theft.Tuesday — Police charged 18-year-old Jalen M. Alexander, a student at Summit Academy, with breaking out of the reform school on Herman Road in Summit Township about 10 p.m. May 22Alexander and another student used their bed sheets as a rope to escape together out an unlocked window. They ran away but were found about 2:40 a.m. May 23.Alexander is charged with escape. No information was immediately available about the other suspect.Tuesday — Police issued 39 citations against John Wagner & Sons Foreign Auto Parts after an investigation in May turned up illegal title notarizations at the business on Route 19 in Lancaster Township.5:43 p.m. Monday — Vehicles driven by Paul Staff, 72, of Butler and Carol Ann Lanschaik, 44, of Mercer County collided on West Mercer Street in Harrisville.Monday — A girl's bicycle, valued at $130, was stolen between Saturday and Monday from a home on Orchid Lane in Brady Township. The bike, which is purple, is a 20-inch Mongoose model.Sunday — An unknown thief stole about 800 pounds of scrap steel from a home in Parker Township. A news release did not identify the home's address. The theft happened between May 24 and Sunday.May 31 — A Harley-Davidson hitch cover, chrome with black lettering, was stolen from the front porch of a home on Water Lane in Washington Township. The theft occurred between noon Thursday and 5 p.m. Friday.

12:50 p.m. Monday — Cynthia G. Hindman, 35, of Hilliards is suspected of driving under the influence of a controlled substance on Route 38 in Harrison Township, Allegheny County. Police alleged that Hindman smoked marijuana before being caught driving.James E. Shearer, 28, of Hilliards, a passenger in Hindman's car, was found with suspected marijuana. Shearer faces misdemeanor drug possession charges.8:42 a.m. Monday — A car driven by Elizabeth M. Hepfl, 37, of Adrian crashed into a guardrail on Route 422 in East Franklin Township. Hepfl, who was not wearing a seat belt, was taken to ACMH Hospital in East Franklin with minor injuries.
