Playoffs in full swing this week

Now it’s getting serious.

It’s officially playoff time for everyone — WPIAL, District 9, District 10.

All are in the playoffs and it’s win or go home.

There are some intriguing matchups on the docket this week.

Union makes its debut in the playoffs. Rimersburg and the surrounding area is showing support with a slew of signs backing the team.

It’s an exciting time to be a Golden Knight.

Slippery Rock makes its return to the postseason after a two-year hiatus.

And the usual suspects Karns City and Moniteau are back in the District 9 tournament, seemingly on a collision course to meet again in the championship game.

Should be fun.

Onto the picks:

North Allegheny 36, Seneca Valley 29 — The Tigers are the defending state champion and held off the Raiders earlier this season.Seneca Valley is a dangerous team and this has upset written all over it ... but giblets say NA.Sometimes, you just have to go with your giblet.•

Knoch 26, Thomas Jefferson 19 — After an emotional week and win over West Allegheny, the Knights are settling in to face a team that has had tremendous success for more than a decade. The Jaguars have reached the WPIAL semifinals every year since 1997.That’s longer than the one and only Thomas Jefferson was president.Knoch will end that streak.•

Meadville 28, Slippery Rock 26 — The Rockets stunned the Bulldogs in September, rallying to beat then-unbeaten Meadville, which sent them on a serious mid-season slide. The Bulldogs have recovered and have rolled off 63-0 and 55-0 wins the last two weeks. That and revenge should be just enough to topple Slippery Rock.n

Port Alleghany 28, Union 27 — This is the toughest game of the weekend to call.In this Saturday afternoon tilt deep in the wilderness of northern Pennsylvania, Union will march into its first playoff game, well, ever. The Golden Knights are coming off a rout of Sheffield, forcing 10 turnovers and intercepting nine passes in the process. That’s not likely to happen again. I can see this game going either way, but I have to go with Port Alleghany.•

Karns City 28, Brookville 17 — The Gremlins held on for a three-point win over Brookville last month, but Karns City is playing better and with more consistency since them.Plus, Glenn Toy is a beast.Go with the team with the beast, that’s what I always say.•

Moniteau 47, Sheffield 12 — If Sheffield turns the ball over 10 times against the Warriors, the score could be 147-12.Sheffield can’t possible cough the ball up that much, can they?Scoop was fined for a hit on a defenseless closed window.
