SRU bows to Griffins
Slippery Rock University's men's basketball team never recovered from a rough start in dropping an 87-72 decision to Seton Hill Saturday at Morrow Field House.
SRU (7-5, 3-4) fell behind 42-22 by halftime in seeing its three-game winning streak snapped. Juwan Strothers came off the bench to score 29 points for The Rock as starting guard Malcolm Richardson spent much of the game in foul trouble.
Cornelius Brown had 11 points and 16 rebounds — his eighth double-double of the season — while Jordan Marrow added 13 points.
Kameron TYaylor paced Seton Hill (3-7, 2-5) with 35 points. Noah Davis added 19, Spencer Kasson 18 points, 11 rebounds and seven blocked shots.
SRU is off until Dec. 30, when it hosts Ohio University Eastern at 1 p.m. at Morrow Field House.
Seton Hill 61, SRU (women) 58 — The Rock women squandered a 14-point lead in the first half in falling to Seton Hill, 61-58, at Morrow Field House Saturday.
Mallory Heinle, making her first start of the season for The Rock (7-5 overall, 4-3 in the PSAC-West) led SRU with 10 points.
Community College of Waynesburg 65, Butler County Community College 58 — Butler graduate Julia Baxter had 22 points and nine rebounds when she was forced to leave the game 30 second in the second half when she took an inadvertent elbow to the eye.Baxter was taken to the hospital for stitches.Kalynn Callihan added 13 points for the Pioneers (8-5).
