Kent 100th birthday
Robert Kent, a patient at Concordia’s Good Samaritan Hospice in Jefferson Township, celebrated his 100th birthday.
Kent was born Dec. 30, 1915, in Oakdale. He eloped with the former Myrle Casarietti in February 1940. They celebrated 72 years of marriage before her death in 2012. He has four children. He also has nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Kent worked at the Standard Machine and Supply Company and at J&L Steel before enlisting in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served as a technical sergeant in the 3rd Battalion of the 42nd Infantry Rainbow Division in Austria, Germany and the Battle of the Bulge.
After the war, he worked at Del Monte Foods and at Ferrari in Las Vegas.
Kent is interested in science, especially astrophysics and string theory. He builds circuits using solar panels, lights and radios and is learning about drones.
Kent also loves art and music. He enjoys opera arias and the violinist and conductor André Rieu. He plays the harmonica and serenades family members on their birthdays.
