CHERRY TWP —Brody Pollock always has possessed a penchant for the outside shot, perhaps more than Union boys basketball coach Karen Davis would prefer.

She didn't complain about it Wednesday night.

The Golden Knights drained nine 3-pointers against Moniteau, including four by Pollock, but none was bigger that his buzzer-beater to give Union a thrilling 71-70 overtime victory in KSAC action.

After Kyle Armagost gave Moniteau a two-point advantage by making one of two free throws with 9.1 seconds remaining, Union got the rebound on the miss, pushed the ball downcourt before Scott Booth dished it into the right corner to Pollock, who let fly the game-winning attempt.

"Brody's a great shooter," said Davis about the sophomore. "He's always been a long-range shooter. He'd rather take that shot outside than drive it to the hole. A lot of time, that could be him being young."

Booth had a defender in tow near the corner, but he dribbled a few steps out, then dished back to the wide-open Pollock.

"I just put the shot up," Pollock said. "I just tried to get open."

Booth leads the Butler County area with 24.6 points per game. Pollock is second on the team with 9.9. Of his 160 points, 41.3 percent have come on 3-pointers.

Union (11-5, 9-2) did get a game-saving shot from Booth when he scored with four seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime.

The Golden Knights, who enjoyed an 11-point lead with 5:36 left in the third quarter, saw the Warriors (6-9, 6-5) embark on a 16-5 run, including 10 points from James Shope, to knot the score at 40.

"We had a great second half," said Moniteau coach Randy Armagost. "Our story is we don't play a whole game and I don't know why that is.

"We're playing well, as far as I'm concerned. the kids are giving 130 percent. They're exhausted in there," he added.

Union held a 50-48 lead with 4:38 to play before two free throws by Booth and a layup and two free throws by Logan Mortimer gave the Knights a 56-48 advantage with 2:35 to play.

Union still enjoyed a seven-point lead with 1:36 left before Moniteau's Zach McCormick sank a 3-pointer.

Booth missed two free throws, before McCormick scored with 25 seconds left. The Warriors' Zach Sloan then stole the ensuing inbounds pass, scored and was fouled. His free throw to complete the three-point play gave Moniteau the one-point lead.

Pollock missed a pair of free throws with 16.5 seconds, then Armagost made one of two free throws to give the Warriors the 63-61 lead with 12.5 seconds to play before Booth's shot sent the game into overtime.

"We told the kids at halftime, 'Don't lose the game in the fourth quarter,'" coach Armagost noted. "We didn't. We lost it on the last shot in overtime. We're getting better."

Booth led all scorers with 22 points while Mortimer added 19, Taylor Smith 16 and Pollock 12.

The Warriors got a pair of 21-point performances from Sloan and McCormick, and Shope and Armagost netted 13 each.
