Rock women defeat Clarion
Slippery Rock University’s women’s basketball team used a dominating effort on the boards (48-23) in defeating visiting Clarion 71-54 Wednesday night.
Lexi Carpenter paced The Rock with 22 points, while Erica Aiello (13), Mallory Heinle (12) and Ciara Patterson (11) each reached double figures.
SRU (12-14, 8-12), which outscored Clarion 22-8 in the fourth quarter, featured five players with at least six rebounds, led by 10 from Morgan Henderson.
Men’s BasketballSRU scored four points in the final seven seconds, but dropped a 68-67 thriller against Clarion.The Golden Eagles’ Andre’ Anthony drained a free throw with seven seconds remaining, giving Clarion a 68-63 lead. But The Rock’s Malcolm Richardson hit four free throws — aided by a Clarion turnover, to close the gap to one point.A foul on the Golden Eagles gave SRU one more chance, but The Rock turned the ball over as time expired.Cornelius Brown scored 29 points and added 14 rebounds for The Rock (14-12, 9-11).Allegany College (Md.) 102, Butler County Community College 63 — The Pioneers (4-24) ended their season with this home loss.Ken Snead scored 29 points for BC3, Austin Miller had 16 points and 10 assists and Jake Anderson 10 rebounds.
