Butler grad Bailey keys SRU title run
Butler graduate Jasmine Bailey won both the 200- and 400-meter dashes to win Most Outstanding Track Athlete and help the Slippery Rock University women's track and field team to a first-place finish at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships over the weekend at Edinboro University.
Bailey broke her own record in the 200 with a time of 24.84 for her second straight PSAC title in the event.
She also ran a leg of The Rock's 1,600-meter relay team that finished second.
Sabrina Anderson won the Most Outstanding Overall Athlete Award in the meet, winning the 60-meter hurdles and the pentathlon while competing in seven events, mostly with a nagging injury.
Anderson scored 21 team points for The Rock.
The SRU men finished second.
Women's BasketballButler High School graduate Julia Baxter scored 23 points, but the Butler County Community College women's basketball team saw its season end in an 87-55 loss to West Georgia Tech in the District G Championship game Saturday at Morrow Field House.The Golden Knights advanced to the elite eight of the NJCAA Division III Women's Basketball National Championship Tournament with the win.Baxter finished her first season with the Pioneers as one of the best community college players in the country, averaging 24 points and 14 rebounds per game.
