Knoch coach resigns
JEFFERSON TWP — It was time.
That was the best way for Chris Andreassi to explain his resignation as boys basketball coach at Knoch High Wednesday night.
"It was four good years," said Andreassi, who took over the program from longtime coach Les Shoop before the 2006-07 season. "It was four fun years, and I enjoyed it. I enjoyed being in the gym. But this was a personal decision (to resign)."
Andreassi was 39-49 in his four years on the Knights bench. Knoch made the WPIAL Class AAA playoffs during his first season, but lost to Blackhawk in the opening round.
The Knights have had three consecutive losing seasons, including a 9-12 campaign this year.
"It's a great program," Andreassi said. "Les left it in great shape. It was fun to be a part of it. This program will be successful for years to come."
Andreassi said he had thought about resigning for some time.
"It's a lot of work," Andreassi said. "I just felt it was time to move on."
Andreassi said he would keep his options open for the future and didn't rule out coaching somewhere else next season.
Andreassi spent 20 years coaching basketball at various levels until he got his first head coaching job at Knoch.
Andreassi has taught in the South Butler School District for 21 years.
