Rockets stifle DuBois, 17-15
Karns City, Union also notch wins
Frank Conlon rushed for 141 yards on nine carries, including a 94-yard touchdown run, and Chris Reeseman returned a punt 90 yards for a score as Slippery Rock edged DuBois 17-15 Friday night.
The Rockets' defense, though, was the story.
Slippery Rock limited DuBois to just 276 yards and running back Garrett Brown to 81 yards on 22 carries in the win.
Brown entered the game with 1,570 yards on just 149 carries this season.
“Our defense played outstanding tonight,” said Slippery Rock coach Brendan Hathaway.
Tyler Fleeger scored for DuBois on a 15-yard fumble return to put the Beavers up 6-0 early.
Slippery Rock (9-1), though, answered with a 25-yard field goal off the foot of Cole McCandless to cut the lead in half and then went up on Conlon's 94-yard run.
Reesman's punt return gave the Rockets a 17-9 lead before DuBois (8-1) scored late on a Brown 1-yard run.
Two years after a winless season, Slippery Rock is 9-1 and region champs.
“This was huge,” Hathaway said. “The seniors were on that 0-10 team. I can't be more proud of a group that got a mindset that working hard leads to success.”
Karns City 34, Marion Center 20
Wyatt Everetts scored on a 9-yard run and then Cooper Shepard salted the game away with a 30-yard interception return to lead the Gremlins (7-3) to this win in the regular-season finale.
The Karns City defense held Marion Center (3-7) to just 194 total yards.
Tyler Kepple completed 10-of-18 passes for 114 yards for Karns City. Everetts finished with 33 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.

Playing on a muddy field, Union gave up 68 yards rushing to Cambridge Springs (3-7) in the first quarter, but minus-41 yards on the ground in the next three periods.
Shick hit Keenan Rankin for a 17-yard touchdown pass to tie the score at 6-6 at the end of the first quarter before his two short touchdown runs of 4 and 1 in the second half put the game away.
