Christmann, Shick earn 1st-team all-state honors

Slippery Rock offensive lineman Forrest Christmann and Union defensive back Brody Shick were named first-team selections to the Pennsylvania Football News all-state team in their respective classes on Wednesday.

Christmann, a senior, paved the way for a potent Slippery Rock rushing attack and led the Rockets to a Region 5 title in District 10 Class AAA. Shick pulled down 10 interceptions for the Golden Knights, while also quarterbacking the team to a school record-tying nine wins in District 9 Class A during his senior campaign.

Seneca Valley senior running back Forrest Barnes was a second-team pick in Class AAAA. He racked up 1,682 yards and 26 rushing touchdowns on 229 carries and also caught 26 passes for 256 yards and three scores this season en route to the Butler Eagle Scoring Trophy.

Freeport’s Brendan Lynch, a senior, was a second-team Class AA selection at defensive back. He snagged three interceptions and defended 16 passes and also accounted for 1,810 yards of total offense and 21 touchdowns as the Yellowjackets’ quarterback.

Mars sophomore Josh Schultheis earned third-team honors at running back in Class AAA with a breakout season of 1,656 yards and 27 touchdowns rushing for the Planets.

Union senior Kaden McGregor was named the second-team punter in Class A, averaging just over 40 yards per attempt. The Golden Knights were represented well in the honorable mention category, as nine Union players were picked.

Butler linebacker Bob Vernick and place-kicker Devin Fitz were honorable-mention selections in Class AAAA.
